Imagine the excitement of transforming an outdoor space into a magical playground that caters to children of all ages and abilities. The key to creating such a space lies in choosing the right playground equipment.

On this page we'll guide you through the process of selecting the perfect play equipment, designing a playground that fosters creativity, and ensuring the safety and quality of your play space.

  • What are thermoplastic playground markings?
It's a special type of plastic which is both durable and has an anti-slip grit within it. From these sheets of material, we create designs that we use to make playgrounds more fun and engaging. These markings are durable, vibrant, and safe for children. The thermoplastic can be used to create games, learning aids, or just fun patterns on the playground surface. With 27 colours available, the limit is just the imagination.
  • What are the benefits of playground markings?
Choosing the right playground markings can make playtime more fun and active, help with learning, and make it easier for everyone to get along. Plus, they're created in a way that everyone, no matter their hobbies or skills, can enjoy and participate in. This aids in creating an environment in which physical activity levels are increased, learning occurs through fun engagement and promotes inclusive play.
  • How do you install thermoplastic playground markings?
The first step is to sketch out the design with chalk on the tarmac. We then apply a liquid primer to the playground surface which seals it and ensures a long life for the thermoplastic markings. Once the primer is dry, about 20 mins, we then position the thermoplastic markings onto the sketched area. Using a special heating tool we make them hot until they've 'melted'. Once cool they will have firmly attached to the tarmac and won't move for a very long time!
  • How long do thermoplastic playground markings last?
The short answer would be that they can last up to 10 times as long as paint (so about 10 years). However, the longer and arguably more accurate answer would be that it depends on a number of factors. What condition the playground surface was in when they were applied, how they're treated / the amount of footfall on them, what environmental conditions they're exposed to. As a guideline though we would expect thermoplastic markings to last 7 - 8 years when installed onto a good surface.
  • How do you remove playground markings?
Some companies burn them off. We don't do this as we believe the noise, the fumes, and the mess it leaves behind are not worth it. This leaves a couple of options. UHP (ultra high pressure) water jet blasting will remove them, but the pressure is so high that it can remove some of the tarmac as well. Which then leaves the best possible way to remove them and that's UHP sand jet blasting. The sand acts as an abrasive and helps remove the markings at much lower pressures. As a result the markings can be removed with the least risk of damage to the playground. UHP sand jet blasting takes more time than UHP water jet blasting, but the minimise intrusion into the surface of the playground is very much worth it.

Choosing the Right Playground Equipment

Playgrounds offer a world of fun, adventure, and learning for children. Choosing the right play equipment is essential to create an engaging and stimulating environment for all ages. From thrilling slides to challenging climbing frames, the possibilities are endless when it comes to designing the perfect play area. As you explore the extensive range of outdoor playground equipment available, consider the needs of the children who will be using it and the space you have to work with.

An essential aspect of playground design is ensuring that the equipment installed is suitable for the age group it serves. For example, primary schools require play equipment that is both exciting and educational, promoting physical activity, social interaction, and cognitive development for young learners. By selecting age-appropriate equipment and incorporating a mix of activities, you can create a playground that is fun, safe, and beneficial for all.

Outdoor Play Equipment

Outdoor play equipment is an essential component of any playground, providing endless fun and adventure for children.

Trim trails, clamber stacks, traverse walls, spring riders, mud kitchens, and sensory panels are just a few examples of extensive range of exciting outdoor play equipment available.

These play features not only offer enjoyment, but also promote physical activity, social interaction, and cognitive development.

When selecting outdoor playground equipment, consider the age and size of the children who will be using it, the space available, and the safety features of the equipment.

With the right combination of outdoor play equipment, you can create a play space that encourages children to explore, learn, and grow.

Wooden Playground Equipment

Wooden playground equipment offers a natural, durable and attractive alternative to traditional metal or plastic options.

Traverse walls, clamber stacks, trim trails, and other imaginative structures made from wood are not only visually appealing but also provide a strong and secure play environment.

When choosing wooden playground equipment, it's important to ensure that the wood is treated and sealed properly to protect against rot and decay, and to check for potential splinters or sharp edges.

With proper care and maintenance, wooden playground equipment can offer years of enjoyment for children.

The Components of a Great Playground

A great playground should be more than just a collection of outdoor playground equipment. To create a truly engaging and enjoyable space for children, it's important to consider the various components that make up a successful playground. From active, play areas and zones that encourage physical activity to climbing walls that challenge children's abilities, each element contributes to the overall experience and ensures that the playground caters to a diverse range of interests and needs.

In addition to play equipment, consider incorporating natural elements such as sand, dirt, water, trees, bushes, and mudholes into your playground design. These elements can help to make play parks create a more immersive and stimulating environment, allowing children to connect with nature and explore their surroundings in a hands-on way.

Furthermore, don't forget to provide ample shelter, seating, and shade for children and their caregivers to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all.

Active Play Zones

Active play zones are designated areas within a playground where children can engage in high-energy, physical activities such as running, jumping, and playing games. These self-directed, unplanned zones encourage children to explore new activities, challenge their own abilities, and have fun while staying active.

In addition to promoting physical fitness and motor skill development, active play zones can also help children build social skills, as they often involve unstructured interaction with their peers in a safe and enjoyable environment.

To create an effective active play zone, consider the size of the area, the variety of activities available, and the safety of the equipment and surroundings.

Climbing Walls

Climbing walls are an exciting addition to any playground, offering children the opportunity to explore their physical capabilities in a fun and rewarding way. Available in various materials and levels of difficulty, climbing walls cater to a wide range of ages and abilities.

When installing a climbing wall, it's important to ensure that the wall is firmly attached to the ground and that the holds are securely fastened. Regular inspection and maintenance of the climbing wall will guarantee that it remains safe and enjoyable for children to use.

Nursery Outdoor Equipment

Young children in nursery settings benefit greatly from access to age-appropriate outdoor playground equipment. Nursery outdoor equipment, such as climbing frames, gazebos, and hill climbers, is designed to provide fun and stimulating activities that cater to the unique needs of young children.

When selecting nursery outdoor equipment, prioritize safety features such as non-slip surfaces, shock-absorbing materials, and secure anchoring, as well as ensuring that the equipment meets the relevant safety standards. By providing engaging and safe play opportunities for young children, you can help them develop essential motor skills and foster a love for outdoor play.

Inclusive Playground Equipment

Inclusive playground equipment is designed to ensure that children of all abilities have equal opportunities to engage in play, regardless of their disabilities or special needs. Wheelchair-accessible swings, adaptive seesaws, sensory play panels, and accessible slides are just a few examples of the full range of inclusive outdoor playground equipment available.

When designing a playground, it's essential to consider the needs of all children and incorporate equipment that encourages physical, sensory, and social growth for everyone. By prioritizing inclusivity in your playground design, you can create a welcoming and enjoyable space for all children to play together.

From selecting the perfect combination of playground equipment and colors to creating themed school playgrounds that inspire imaginative play, the possibilities are endless when it comes to personalising your play space.

One key aspect of customising your playground design is seamlessly integrating playground equipment into its surroundings. By incorporating natural elements and carefully considering the existing landscape, you can create a harmonious blend that enhances the overall aesthetic and functionality of the space.

Additionally, themed school playgrounds can be a fun and creative way to engage children and foster a sense of community. Select equipment and colors that align with the theme, and incorporate elements such as sculptures, murals, and other decorations to create a truly immersive experience.
