Playground Markings

Playground Marking Ideas

School playgrounds can be a lot of fun but they can also be pretty boring.

School playgrounds can be a lot of fun, but they tend to get boring after the first few games and you might be considering school playground markings but not sure where to start.
Thermoplastic markings offer an excellent way to freshen up a school playground and encourage children of all ages to explore and play.  Primary schools and even nurseries with younger children, and upwards can make use of the benefits of all our playground games & playground surface markings.

There are many different designs available, so you can choose (we are here to help if you need us) something that will work well with the specific layout of your playground and age range of the children. Plus, the markings can be used to create different game formats, so children don’t get bored, and because they’re usually brightly colored, they’ll help to liven up the playground and make it more inviting for children.

So, if you’re looking for a way to add some fun and excitement to your playground, be sure to check out some of the different playground marking ideas that are available below. Please note that these are just a small selection of some of our most popular markings and are presented here in the hope it helps give you ideas and inspiration.  Our catalogue contains the full range (and we can also make any bespoke markings you like too!) or simply visit our main playground markings page.

Traditional Playground Marking Games

Hopscotch Playround Markings

Tri Hopscotch

The game of Hopscotch has been around for centuries and is a popular playground marking for break times. The game is easy for children of all ages to play and only requires a few simple materials. The object of the game is to throw a small object, such as a stone or beanbag, into each square as you hop from start to finish. If you touch any lines or step on a square with the object, you must start over. The first person to reach the finish wins the game.

Hopscotch is not only a fun way to play, but it’s also a great way to improve coordination and balance. Playgrounds all over the world are marked with Hopscotch games, making it a universally enjoyed activity, and it’s one of the most commonly purchased markings.
The Tri-Hopscotch is a great adaptation of the original hopscotch, fantastic to be played individually or as a team. The Tri-Hopscotch also encourages children to get moving and exercise whilst having lots of fun.

Fun Fact: The original hopscotch was introduced to Britain by the Romans for military exercises.

Snakes and Ladders Playground Marking

Snakes and Ladders Playground Marking

There’s something special about the game of snakes and ladders. It’s easy for children to understand and play, but it also offers a challenging game that can be enjoyed by all.

The origins of the game are thought to date back to ancient India, where it was known as “Moksha Patamu.” The game eventually made its way to England, where it became known as “snakes and ladders.” Today, the game is enjoyed by children all over the world.

We offer a variety of different sized snakes and ladders playground markings, as well as a wall mounted interactive dice panel (no more losing those foam dice at playtime).
With so many options available, there’s sure to be a snakes and ladders playground marking that’s a perfect way to combine play and learning.

Fun fact: Snakes and Ladders originated in ancient India in the 2nd century AD.

Educational Playground Markings

Number Grid Playground Marking

School Playground Marking

Number grid playground markings are a fantastic way to encourage children to play and learn in a fun and interactive way and a superb example of how you can incorporate the markings the children use at break time into class based learning activities.

Playground markings are a great way to inject some fun into maths lessons. By turning the lesson into a game, pupils are more likely to engage with the material and retained the information. There are a variety of different games that can be played using playground markings. For example, hopscotch (at the start of this post) can be used to teach addition and subtraction, while our number grids and times table grids can be used to help pupils learn their multiplication tables. Not only are playground markings a great educational tool, but they also provide an opportunity for pupils to get some fresh air and exercise. So next time you’re planning a maths lesson, why not head outside and make use of the playground markings?

Exercise Track Playground Marking

Playground markings are always a great way to add some extra fun to your child’s playtime and promote physical activity, however our exercise tracks are one of the most popular playground markings, and for good reason!

They can be made to suit any sized shape or area, and can include an almost limitless number of activities. Plus, they’re one of the best value for money playground markings we do. So if you’re looking for some playground marking ideas, an exercise track is definitely worth considering. Your children will love it, and you’ll love seeing them having so much fun!

Netball Court Marking and Sports Markings

Netball Court Marking

Sports court marking in schools can be a great way to encourage young people to get active.

By far the most popular sports court marking we install is the netball court marking. Having a dedicated netball court can help to encourage participation, interaction and build teamwork skills.

The markings on a netball court are designed to help players understand the game and know where they should be positioned. The traditional netball court is rectangular in shape (30.5 x 15.25m, although we can make the court different sizes to suit your available area), with markings indicating the halfway line, the shooting circle, and the goal posts. These markings help players to understand the basic rules of the game and make it easier for them to play. Having a well-marked netball court can therefore be a great asset for any school that wants to encourage its students to get involved in sports.

Playground Marking Ideas Summary

We love hearing from school business managers, headteachers, teachers, PTA / PFA groups and individual parents about playground projects and then working with them to inspire ideas, provide solutions and transform a blank patch of tarmac into a vibrant area for fun.

It’s one of the reasons we do what we do – to help make children’s play spaces more enjoyable and eye-catching. Our friendly teams here love getting emails & photos with feedback of our recently installed playground markings. It’s moments like these that make us proud to do what we do.

So if you’re ever feeling stuck for ideas or simply want to talk about your next playground project, don’t hesitate to contact us or arrange a site survey – we’re always happy to help out however we can.

Top Tip: Get the children involved.  Having their input is invaluable as they will be the ones using the markings.
