Free Playground Site Surveys - A Guide

playground markings survey and installation

If this caught your eye, you might be considering a revamp for your playground. Playground markings are great place to start, but our free comprehensive site surveys can unlock a myriad of possibilities.

You may already have an idea of how you want your playground to look, or you might be wondering where on earth to begin. Either way, Signet Play is here to help.

We’re experts in the (playing) field of playground markings, playground equipment, school signs and safety surfacing. We’ve collaborated with nurseries, schools, colleges and universities for over 50 years, so we know how tricky it can be, figuring out where to start.

That’s why we offer our free site survey and consultation, with no obligation. We’ll come and visit your school in person, so there’s no need to worry about faffing about with cameras, microphones and dodgey Wi-Fi connections.

Booking your Site Survey

The first step is to book your visit. How? Easy. You can do that here:

Fill our our booking form, and our playground design experts will be in touch. We aim to get back to you as soon as possible — usually within one working day. Let us know where you are and when you’d like us to visit, and we’ll fit you in.

There’s no charge for moving your appointment or cancellation — we just ask that you let us know as soon as you’re able to.

What happens on a site survey?

Our free site surveys go further than just casting an eye over the asphalt and pointing out where a hopscotch might look good.

We understand that every child is different, and so is every playground. Of course the available space and layout is one thing, but we delve deeper, exploring how different areas of your playground can be tailored to nurture imaginative play, physical activity, and social interaction among all age groups.

We really like to get into the nitty gritty of it all. How do your children like to play? What areas lend themselves best to different styles of play? Children who prefer more chilled pretend games might favour the more sheltered areas of the playground compared to the high-energy children who love to run around. How can we utilise playground markings and playground equipment in a way that is fulfilling to both play styles, but also cohesive enough to be enjoyed together?

Understanding these nuances helps us tailor our playground designs to not just fill a space, but to enrich it.

The Survey

Now for the fun part.

As we walk through the space, we’re going over the practical elements, such as assessing if surfaces are suitable for playground markings or checking for damage that may impact their installation. If you've got existing playground markings you'd like removed, we can talk about that too.

But more than that — we want to see what you’re seeing. The primary aim of our site survey is to really understand your overall vision for your playground. It’s about capturing your ideas and dreams for the playground and seeing how they fit within the physical space. Are there specific themes or elements you’ve envisioned? How do you imagine the children interacting with the space?

You know your school playground and how it’s used as well as anyone, and this is our chance to walk in your shoes and grasp the potential you see in every corner and open area.

How Long Does A Site Survey Take?

Not long.

We understand that your time is valuable and you’ve got stuff to do. Typically, we like to spend at least half an hour to an hour onsite, giving us plenty of time to build a comprehensive understanding of your needs and the available space.

We believe in thoroughness and attention to detail, so if there’s more to explore then we’re happy to stay for longer. We also welcome the opportunity to meet with any key individuals involved in your project — Senior Leadership Teams, class teachers, finance directors, caretakers, or anyone else who plays a part in the playground development.

We’re also keen to involve school councils and other student representatives in the playground marking design process. After all, who better to provide insight into what makes the best playground than the children who will be using it?

My school isn’t in Bristol, can I still book a site survey?
